Gearing Up For the School Year

The Dare County Unit of NC Retired School Personnel (NCSRP) met at Rooster’s Southern Kitchen in Kill Devil Hills on September 25, 2019 for their initial meeting of the 2019-20 school year.
Juli Perkins, President, chaired a business meeting, which included focus on giving to Hyde County Schools in support of the devastation that reigned down on their island school. Pat Baker, member, gave an update on how their progress has started. An envelope was passed and $666 was collected at this meeting for help replace Ocracoke school furniture. Linda White announced a film "Christmas Every Day" being played at the Pioneer Theater on the night of September 29 at 5:00 pm. which is about Eddie Green, a very well known man who has given the means to many on the OBX. Maureen King talked about the switch from Mano Al Hermano to Family Literature Program, and asked for support from members. Martha Edwards discussed a Yoga program going on in Kitty Hawk.
Carol Sparks rounded up tickets for the raffle, which was held with members taking home prizes! This starts our yearly "kitty" that assists the students we will give scholarships to in the Spring. Sponsors this month included: Absolutely Outer Banks, Surfin’ Spoon Frozen Yogurt Shop, PigMan’s Barbecue, Dare Devil Pizzeria, Bonzer Shack, American Pie Drive-in, and Barefoot Bernie’s Bar & Grill. Our next meeting is October 23 (noon) at Mulligan's Restaurant in Nags Head.
